I guess you could say I am one of those people who is annoyingly addicted to learning. But at the same time, I am also the queen of lazy excuses with a short attention span. No Bueno! So how does a distracted reader like me manage to read at least one book weekly? The answer is audiobooks! Instead of belting out the latest Taylor Swift song while driving (hello, Swiftie here!) or staring at the ceiling in the hot tub, I keep my momentum going. Want to channel your inner business goddess while doing chores, walking your dog, or relaxing on your bed of nails? JUST.PRESS.PLAY more often. Here are my top 5 books for entrepreneurs. A solid selection for people like you who want to set goals and move the needle forward in business and life (while working on themselves). On y va!
Awaken The Giant Within by Tony Robbins
TAKE IMMEDIATE CONTROL OF YOUR MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, PHYSICAL AND, FINANCIAL DESTINY
If you have ever felt the unbearable pain of not doing what you want, raise your hand! To accomplish something great, your desire to win must be greater than your fear of failure. That thought alone is worth its weight in gold. But, wait, there’s more. Mr. Powerhouse, Anthony Robbins, explains how you can reprogram old thought patterns and link them to new, more enjoyable ones.
Raise your standards and stand by your decisions. It’s the core of building your dream business and life overall. For example, the day a smoker quits smoking is not the day they smoke their last cigarette. Instead, it is the day he decides to quit! Tony also makes this clear in his workshops (yes, I attended one). First, imagine your successes and then execute them. To try this out, check out THIS, a simple but effective exercise. What do you want to accomplish? How would you feel if you achieved that goal?
And most importantly, how would you feel if you did not try to accomplish that goal? Get the book. That’s my final advice.
“People are not lazy. They have impotent goals, goals that do not inspire them” – Tony Robbins.
The Day that Turns Your Life Around by Jim Rohn
REMARKABLE SUCCESS IDEAS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE IN AN INSTANT
All I can say is this is a refreshing classic! Funny enough, it’s Jim Rohn, who was a mentor to Tony Robbins in the past. My favorite sections were the ones about goal setting. According to Rohn, it’s not what you get but what you become that matters. Reading the book almost feels like having a one-on-one conversation with a world-renowned motivational speaker in a fancy library.
“One of the best places to turn your life around is by doing whatever appears on your mental ‘I should’-list” – Jim Rohn.
You are a Badass by Jen Sincero
HOW TO STOP DOUBTING YOUR GREATNESS & START LIVING AN AWESOME LIFE
It’s time to throw your self-sabotaging beliefs out of the window! Why? Cause you bickering about not being good enough is getting old and boring! Jen Sincero, who can simultaneously be sassy and severe, snaps you out of your head. Just be the badass you are meant to be!
This book is an entertaining peek inside Jen’s struggle with insecurities and self-doubt. She will kick your gear back into action!
“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. You’ll find an excuse if you’re not.” -Jen Sincero.
5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE, WORK, AND CONFIDENCE WITH EVERYDAY COURAGE
It’s not always easy to get things done, especially if you can not find an effective way to motivate yourself. Self-discipline is the key! So if you need to get up early but keep napping (and losing), you need to count to five. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and go! Get your body moving within those 5 seconds, or your brain will kill the idea of getting out of bed. Honestly, this method works and is excellent for masters of procrastination. After a while, it will become second nature to you, and you can skip counting.
“When you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds, or your brain will kill it.” – Mel Robbins.
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
CREATIVE LIVING BEYOND FEAR
Talk about getting the right message at the right time! Elizabeth, who wrote ‘Eat, Pray, Love is here to help you break out of your creative rut, dear artist! There’s nothing hippy about this book. Instead, it’s motivational and inspirational. In short, if you are lucky enough to be haunted by a creative idea, embrace it and give it your attention, or it will leave you and go elsewhere. Stay creative, and do not be afraid to make mistakes. Done is better than perfect.
“If I am not actively creating something, then I am probably actively destroying something” – Elizabeth Gilbert.
